About the area
The summers are beautiful and the climate is fair in Vatnsfjörður, and it’s an ideal place to tour the Westfjords from. The drive to Látrabjarg, Selárdalur and Ísafjörður takes about one and a half hour: about an hour to Rauðisandur and 30 minutes to Dynjandi. Sailing to Flatey with the ferry Baldur takes one hour.
- Treat the area and its nature with respect.
- Be considerate of the birds during the nesting season.
- Keep pets on a leash.
- Leave nothing behind and take all garbage with you when you leave the area.
- Overnight stays are prohibited outside organized campsites.
- All disturbances of the ground and construction are subject to permission from the Environment Agency of Iceland.
- Traffic on islands and islets is subject to permission.
- Driving off-road and outside marked trails is prohibited.
- It is prohibited to cut vegetation, disturb wildlife and damage geological formations or other relics.
- Berry picking, other than for immediate consumption, and hunting birds or fishing are prohibited without permission.
- All use of firearms within the nature reserve is prohibited.
