Access and services
Kjalvegur (road 35) is passable for most cars in the summer, and all rivers have been bridged or culverted.
Hveravellir has a camping site, and cabin supervisors employed by the Hveravellir Association operate in Hveravellir from when the mountain roads are opened in June–July into the autumn. Accomodation is available in either a cabin or on the camping site. For further information on the Hveravellir services, please see www.hveravellir.is.
The area has a hot pool, which uses spillwater from the geothermal area.
