Eldey, Reykjanesbaer

Eldey was protected in 1974 and is a 77-meter-high precipitous rock island south of Reykjanes. The biggest gannet settlement in the world is in Eldey, and in summer, the island is crowded with gannets. Visiting the island is prohibited without permission from the Environment Agency, and all shooting is prohibited within 2 km from the island to protect the birdlife.
