Vatnsfjordur
Vatnsfjörður was protected as a nature reserve in 1975. The aim of the protection is to preserve nature in a way that gives people the opportunity to enjoy it. The nature reserve covers an area of approx. 20,000 ha. About four-fifths of it is rocky and sparsely vegetated highlands, but the lowlands are mostly scrub.
