Why are the constructions necessary?
To protect nature from impact and disturbance, enhance the visitor experience with better distribution, and accommodate the increasing number of tourists that visit Geysir.
What are the major changes?
A larger part of the geothermal area will now be accessible, and new footpaths will significantly improve safety.
When will this work completed?
The completion of this first phase is scheduled for September 2024. The total development of the area is expected to be finished by the end of 2025.
Will the area be closed during construction?
It will be necessary to close parts of the geothermal area during the construction process. Closures will be marked within the geothermal area. However, a significant part of the area will remain open and accessible to visitors during the construction.
